DUBROVNIK
The city boasts a rich history dating back to the 7th century, a coastal city that flourished as a maritime trading hub with a legacy of wealth, culture, and architectural marvels. The Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a labyrinth of narrow streets and charming squares, and the imposing City Walls that offer panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea and surrounding islands.
It’s no secret that Dubrovnik gained popularity thanks to the Game of Thrones fans but the landscape and the great connectivity to other European cities is also part of its success as a touristic destination.
Its culinary scene is as diverse as it is delicious too, think fresh seafood caught daily in the Adriatic, black risotto and peka (slow-cooked meat and vegetables). And for those seeking the ultimate in luxury and comfort, the city has it all; from historic palaces transformed into boutique properties to modern beachfront hotels.
THE PELJESAC PENINSULA
It stretches proudly into the Adriatic, this picturesque peninsula is a haven for wine enthusiasts and travelers seeking an authentic taste of Croatian culture. Its diverse geography, characterized by steep hillsides and sun-drenched valleys, provides the perfect terroir for cultivating grapes and producing world-class wines.
Wine holds a special place in the heart of the region, shaping both its economy and culture for centuries. Today, wine production remains a cornerstone of its identity, with local wineries preserving and celebrating the region's winemaking heritage through their craft. But not only, make sure to schedule a stop in Ston, to visit its medieval walls and taste fresh oysters with a glass of wine!
From family-owned estates to boutique wineries, from young wine producers to big names in the industry (cof cof Grgic); the region offers a combo of great views + great wine + great experience.
The ideal time to enjoy this pairing is during the spring and early autumn months, from April to June and September to October. The weather is mild and pleasant and the crowds of peak summer months are not as big (Well, there’s always a crowd in Dubrovnik). Additionally, spring and autumn offer the added bonus of blooming flowers and vineyards coming to life, creating the perfect backdrop for your wine adventure.
Getting from Dubrovnik to the Peljesac Peninsula takes approximately 1hr. You can make a stop in Ston to get fresh oysters and a glass of wine, or to visit the city and its great fortified wall, the longest in the world after the great Chinese wall. As part of our Private Luxury Wine Tours we pick you up from your hotel of choice and take you to all the hot spots in a luxury private car with an English speaker driver.
But, if you’re looking for a one day only excursion, we have curated a ready-to-book list with options that are actually good value for money.
